Marika Hackman is out to steal your girlfriend on “Boyfriend,” our London song of the week. On the track Hackman sings: I think you know she stayed with me last night / I held his world in my hands / I threw it out to see where it would land; a major shift from the well-mannered indie folk she was previously known for. “Boyfriend,” comes off Hackman’s forthcoming album, I’m Not Your Man, set to release June 2, via Sub Pop. During the time that Hackman was working on the new album, she switched to a new manager and new label, and decided to not hold back anymore. The result was I’m Not Your Man, which explores femininity, sexual identity, and more. Hackman is backed by London band, The Big Moon, on the new album.
