Seattle SOTW: Acapulco Lips – “Awkward Waltz”

The trio Acapulco Lips personifies ’60s surf rock in our Seattle Song of the Week, “Awkward Waltz.” The song opens with Maria-Elena Juarez’s enticing bass line. Soon, her hazy vocals are swimming over Christopher Garlands fuzzed out guitar and Davy Berruyer’s spirited drum beats. The band brings elements of psych and garage rock to the track creating a melting pot of exuberance. Garland’s guitar solo that closes out the vivacious track displays his mastery of surf rock and his ability to bring a modern day twist to the vintage genre.

The group will play here in Portland at Mississippi Studios on December 11th.
