Austin SOTW: The Midnight Stroll – “Call Me Back”

Midnight Stroll

For this week’s featured song out of Austin, Texas, we have “Call Me Back” by The Midnight Stroll. The Midnight Stroll is the latest project of Aaron Behrens of Ghostland Observatory. The band just released their excellent debut album, Hearbreak Bugaloo, earlier this year.

“Call Me Back” is a deeply sad song that you can’t help but tap your foot to. It’s a glammy rock ballad that brings to mind songs from Kyle Craft’s wonderful debut The Dolls Of Highland, and that’s not just because Craft and Behrens have a similar vocal range/style.

When Behrens’ voice lifts into falsetto as he sings “I am starting to get depressed,” he sounds like a rock legend. His gorgeous vocals are assisted by subdued yet effective piano, bass, and drums. It’s a wonderful treat to hear such a talent take a break from the electro-funk of Ghostland and channel those skills into a more straightforward rock project.

Listen to the song below, and be sure to check out the whole full-length album on Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, etc.
